Dubai, April 30th, 2015

Genpharm announced today that it has opened its office in the Boston Biotech hub, giving its operations a global reach.

The Boston biotech cluster has established itself as the leading Pharma and Biotech hub in the world. This growth is encouraged by the numerous research establishments and several world class universities.

According to recent estimates, Boston currently employs more than 70,000 staff within the healthcare industry and hosts some of the leading pharmaceutical companies shaping the global industry’s future.

“Since we are targeting novel therapies and diagnostics particularly related to genetic diseases, it is natural for us to set up base close to the incubator hub. This is where most of the start-ups and the Biotech research and development is located”, said Karim Smaira, Managing Partner at Genpharm.

Boston has also become a global hub for biotech investments and funds.

“Despite its growth, the MENA pharmaceutical market represents today less than 2% of the global market. Nevertheless, the potential for growth is significant. It is important for us to have proximity to our potential partners and to create awareness on the present MENA opportunity for some of these companies”, Kamel Ghammachi, Managing Partner at Genpharm.

This represents a major milestone for the company who has been a regular sponsor of the Orphan Drug Meetings and has had a constant presence at the US Bio Convention.

Dr. Samy Ashkar, who will be spearheading the US expansion said “looking at all the exciting new medicines that are being developed for the orphan drug market and realizing the unmet need in MENA, I truly believe that now is the right time to introduce new therapies into the growing MENA market”.
